Before you normally start a round of golf with your buddies, what are the things that run through your mind? No doubt, and in many cases, you think about errands that you have to accomplish or work which you failed to do. You could also arrive at the golf course feeling rather sleepy or experiencing a hangover. You have been quite awfully busy and you realize much too late that going into the game without the right mindset can actually affect your game. Whether this game is a professional sport, a business requirement, or you do this just for fun, you, of course, would want to play a really good game.

Thousands of kids hit the links both during the week and weekends enjoying a game that has nothing to do with sitting on the couch like their video-playing counterparts.  Golf is a game that is taking a generation of kids by storm, some as young as six or seven years old.  What do these club-wielding kids have in common?  They enjoy chasing a ball around a golf course with a stick.  The game of golf evolved from another game called pitch and putt in Europe and is also similar to stick ball in the United States.

Things are changing this year for the Players Championship, starting with the new logo, which features a gold swinging golfer between the two words Players and Championship.  It is hoped that this change in the logo will help people see the connection between the PGA and the Players Championship instead of seeing them as two separate entities. 

The ADA and PGA have recently band together to bring golfing to disabled Americans by forming the Association of Disabled American Golfers (ADAG). Some of the accommodations made for disabled players include a single cart, which allows golfers to every part of the golf course. The plight of the disabled golf player was brought to the attention of the public by a disabled golfer named Casey Martin. Martin was the driving force behind the ADAG, because he made the PGA of America realize that disabled golfers should have the chance to compete in tournaments also. The Association of Disabled American Golfers (ADAG) was born when President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities ACT. The ADA is designed to incorporate access for the disabled into all facets of life. The ADAG is headed by Greg Jones, and has paved the way for disabled golfers.

A degree in golf management may sound odd, but more students become interested in the program as the sport gains more popularity. There are several colleges that offer degree programs in golf management, including Ferris College, and Clemson. The PGA sanctions the golf management program.

The PGA is very strict about golf etiquette, and how players should respect each other and the golf course. There are several rules for playing golf, and there are rules for how a game should progress. Whatever golf course you are playing on, it’s always a good idea to check the scoreboard for any local rules for that course.

The PGA was formed in 1916 to promote the game of golf to the world. The idea for the American Professional Golf Association was formed at a luncheon hosted by department store magnate Rodman Wanamaker, and attended by a group of New York area golf professionals. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the formation of a national organization, which would promote interest in golf, and would elevate the vocation of golf professionals. Wannamaker wanted to promote the association idea to help accelerate the growth of golf, because he saw the public’s growing enthusiasm as the beginning of a trend. James Hepburn a former British PGA secretary was named to chair a seven-member organizing committee for the PGA.
