Losing the weight after you have had your baby can seem like one more mountain you have to climb during your new motherhood battle. Studies indicate that most mothers gain thirty to forty pounds during a pregnancy, and losing weight like that takes time and commitment. These tips, though, should help you to shed those pounds within the first few months after your baby's birth.

One of the most important things you can do to help shed your post baby weight is breastfeed. While it sounds like a corny solution to your extra weight, it will not only give your baby the best possible start in life, it will also help you look much better. During your pregnancy, your body spent some time storing fat as milk reserves. Your body knew that your new baby would arrive in this world hungry. As a result, as soon as the baby is delivered, your body begins to convert its fat reserves into a milk supply. Your body can burn up to five hundred calories a day just by breastfeeding your baby. If you have a frequent nurser, you may be burning more than seven hundred calories a day simply by sitting down to bond with your baby. That can help to kill those extra baby pounds in a hurry.

Your baby is here and now you need to focus on getting your body back in shape. This will not only help you lose the weight you've gained, it will also help you set a good example for your baby. Talk to your doctor about how many calories you should be consuming, as they can vary depending on whether or not you intend to nurse your new baby. Once you get a good idea of how many calories you need, take a close look at the food pyramid. You should be getting all of the recommended servings of each grouping. Based on the normal two thousand calorie diet each day, you should consume at least six servings of grains each day. More than half of these should be whole grain products. Some examples of good grain products to include in your diet are whole-wheat cereals, whole-wheat sandwich bread, and brown rice products. You could also try including brown rice products in your daily diet.

In addition, two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables are also necessary for your daily routine. Remember to eat a variety of
